interlibrary loan

Bib > borrowing > interlibrary loan
Literature that is neither available in the University Library
or in other Düsseldorf libraries,
can be ordered via interlibrary loan from other libraries.

The most important information in brief:

  • A valid library card is required for interlibrary loan.

  • Orders are subject to a fee: 1.50 euros per book or article.
This fee is a processing fee and not a “success fee”, i.e. it is due in any case after the order has been placed.
  • The delivery of journal articles takes approx. 2-5 working days and is carried out by e-mail (collection from the library in special cases only).
  • The delivery of books takes approx. 10-15 working days and will be collected from the library.

Tip: If you require faster delivery, you may be able to use document delivery services (currently only in german) for a fee.

Your order

You can place an interlibrary loan request after logging in to your Bib account (Instructions: Logging in to your Bib account - currently only in german, pdf file, 350 KB).

After logging in, you can search for a book or journal title or enter the information you already have on the desired book, journal article or book chapter.

If you have incomplete information, abbreviations or other inaccurate references, we will be happy to assist you with your interlibrary loan request!

Please note - all about orderability:

  • Experience has shown that some materials - in particular diploma, master's, bachelor's, master's and examination theses - are difficult or impossible to obtain.
  • Articles from newspapers and so-called newsstand journals may not be supplied via interlibrary loan for copyright reasons in accordance with § 60e UrhG.
  • A maximum of 10% of books can (still) be supplied as copies. Complete books cannot be copied.
  • If the desired media are not available in Germany, please contact us before ordering.

Please note - all about borrowing/returning your order:

  • Your order can only be collected from the university library - regardless of the status shown in the interlibrary loan account - once you have been notified by us by e-mail!
  • Your order will be ready for you to collect from the reserve shelf. Interlibrary loans can be collected independently during opening hours via the self-checkout station or during service hours at the service desk.
  • The loan periods of interlibrary loans cannot be extended.
