Funding opportunities at the HSD
Open Access contributes to a transparent and sustainable academic culture and significantly increases the visibility of research results. However, it is often associated with publication costs for authors and is difficult to finance, especially for doctoral students. The HSD's funding opportunities make open access feasible for all publishers - from doctoral students and research assistants to professors.
Since 2024, the HSD has had a central Open Access Publication Fund. This is being financed in a two-year pilot phase with funds from the University Library and the Research and Transfer Department. These funds are supplemented by a grant from the DFG program “Open Access Publication Costs”.
In order to create further structures for Open Access publications, the university has also concluded so-called transformation agreements with individual publishers, through which authors can be granted discounts. Contracts exist with the publishers ACM, Elsevier (DEAL contract), Hogrefe (PsyJOURNALS), Springer Nature (DEAL contract) and Wiley (DEAL contract). The costs after deduction of the author discounts can be financed via the publication fund if no external funds are available or own funds can be contributed. This is an important step to promote Open Science at the HSD and, above all, to support and financially relieve the burden on young researchers.
Members of the HSD can make use of the publication fund and
apply for it via the university library (currrently only in german). For further information, please contact the University Library:
