In order to ensure a reliable supply of textbooks for our students in particular, the library management has decided, in consultation with the Board of Management, to restrict borrowing from the textbook collection to members of the HSD from November 2018.
This means that external students from private universities and all library users who pay an annual fee will no longer be able to borrow from the textbook collection.
The library management has decided to take this step for various reasons:
- The number of private universities, including their students, is constantly increasing. These universities often do without well-equipped libraries and refer their students to the local state libraries.
- The textbook collection is largely financed from quality improvement funds (QVM). These funds are intended to ensure the supply of literature for our primary target group.
- Rising student numbers mean that more and more copies of a textbook are needed. Even now, it is not possible to provide a copy for everyone and unfortunately parallel ebook editions are far less popular than ideally assumed.
We want to continue to meet the needs of our students.
