Submission of dissertations under the PK NRW framework

​​​​​Promotion students at the Doctoral School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW) have the option of fulfilling their requirement to publish their dissertation in electronic form (see also Information on Completing a Promotional Degree). 

For members of Hochschule Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in accordance with § 9 HG NRW, publications are made available through the HSD University Library (HSD BIB) on the institutional repository of the Hochschule Düsseldorf - University of Applied Sciences (HSDopus).​


Electronic Submission Process

  1. ​Contacting the HSD BIB
    Please contact the HSD BIB Publications Service regarding publication to obtain information about procedures, required documents, and forms.

  2. Obtain permission to print
    Make sure you have obtained permission to print your dissertation.

  3. Request a DOI and URN
    Once your dissertation has been approved, you will receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and a URN (Uniform Resource Name) from the HSD BIB.

  4. Completing Your Dissertation
    Make sure your dissertation is fully completed, including the required cover page from the PK NRW.

  5. Submit a consent form
    Submit the consent form for publication on the institutional repository HSDopus.

  6. Confirmation of Mandatory Submission
    The HSD BIB confirms the mandatory submission to the PK NRW. The HSD BIB also handles the notification to the German National Library​

Further information and assistance during service hours:

​ The doctoral degree is formally conferred through the issuance of the doctoral certificate. Before receiving the certificate, doctoral candidates are not entitled to use the doctoral title.

Before the certificate can be issued, your dissertation must be made publicly accessible to the scientific community in accordance with § 15 of the Framework Doctoral Degree Regulations.

Prior to publication, you must obtain permission to print (“Druckerlaubnis”). Any revisions required by the examination board after the defense must be completed before this permission can be granted.

You must submit the mandatory copies (“Pflichtexemplare”) of your published dissertation as required by § 15 RPO to both the library of your university of applied sciences and the Doctoral School NRW.

The dissertation must be published within two years after successfully completing the oral examination.
