Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences has signed transformation agreements with various publishers regarding “open access.” As a result, HSD members benefit from:

Read access to the publishers journal portfolio
Discounted or free open-access publication in open-access journals

The Open Access Publication Fund at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (HSD) provides funding for articles in open-access journals that charge publication fees. To apply for funding from the fund, please always submit a funding application to the HSD University Library.

Below you will find details about the individual publishers:

ACM

By signing a three-year agreement with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), university members gain read access to the entire ACM Digital Library collection.

Members of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences can publish in ACM journals and conference proceedings via Open Access at no additional cost.

The contract runs until the end of 2026.

Elsevier (DEAL-Agreement)

Through the signing of the DEAL agreement with Elsevier (2024–2028), participating institutions gain read access to Elsevier’s journal portfolio, including the Cell Press and The Lancet titles.

For open access publishing, members of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences receive a discount on the APC list prices of 660 journals (Gold Open Access):

20% discount on the APC list price for Elsevier’s Fully Gold Open Access journals
15% discount on the APC list price for fully Cell Press and The Lancet journals

The publisher automatically applies the contractual discount, and the HSD Library is notified of the publication. You will then be contacted regarding the costs.

Frontiers

Under the agreement with Frontiers Media SA (“Frontiers”), all corresponding authors at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences will receive a 10% discount on the article processing charges for Gold Access Journals.

This agreement is initially valid through the end of 2026.

Hogrefe (PsyJOURNALS)

Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences is participating in the national consortium for the open-access transformation of the PsyJOURNALS (Hogrefe) journal portfolio.

In addition to read access to all journals in the PsyJOURNALS portfolio, HSD members can publish in these journals at no additional cost if they are the corresponding author.

This agreement is initially valid through the end of 2026.

IEEE (Gold Open Access)

Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences has entered into an open-access agreement with the IEEE that enables discounted publication in eligible gold open-access journals. The agreement includes a limited number of prepaid article processing charges (APCs), reducing the cost per article to 1,566 euros (including VAT).

MDPI

By entering into a two-year agreement with the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), all corresponding authors at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences receive a 30% discount on the article processing charges for Gold Access journals.

The agreement is initially valid through the end of 2026.

Springer Nature (DEAL-Agreement)

With the signing of the second DEAL agreement with Springer Nature (2024–2028), participating institutions will have read access to nearly all journal content on the Springer Nature platform.

For open access publishing, members of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences receive a 20% discount on the ACP list prices of over 500 journals (“Fully Open Access” = Open Access Gold).

The publisher automatically applies the contractual discount, and the HSD Library is notified of the publication. You will then be contacted regarding the costs.

Wiley (DEAL-Agreement)

With the signing of the second DEAL agreement with Wiley (2024–2028), participating institutions gain read access to nearly all journal content on the Wiley Online Library platform.

For open access publishing, members of the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf receive a 20% discount on the APC list prices of over 600 journals (Open Access = Open Access Gold).

The publisher automatically applies the contractual discount, and the HSD Library is notified of the publication. You will then be contacted regarding the costs.
