The University Archives is the historical archive of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, which was founded in 1971.

From an organizational standpoint, the University Archive were assigned to the University Library on February 10, 2014, by a decision of the Management Board.

Functions of the university archive:

  • takes over the records created at the university - that is, written, visual, and audio documents in both analog and digital formats - once the retention periods have expired (as specified in § 3 of the Records Management Policy - see below)
  • evaluates the records submitted based on their long-term value, distinguishing between those worthy of archiving and those to be destroyed
  • collects the records of all units of the university, i.e., the university administration, central bodies, academic departments, research institutions, and administrative units
  • systematically catalogs archival materials in accordance with scholarly standards to make them accessible for research
  • helps to build identity and tradition for the university
  • preserves archival materials and makes them available to the public
